Digital Garden
A similar concept to Zettelkasten, Second Brain, etc in that it is comprised of densely linked notes.
Writing and developing these notes is more akin to gardening; it involves regular tending, pruning weeding and watering to allow the garden to grow. The work is never finished, it is simply allowed to bloom.
Another key concept is that of learning in public. Rather than the private vault of knowledge that is typical in Zettelkasten and its ilk, the digital garden is publicly available. the growing of the garden can be witnessed by anyone.
The densely linked nature allows the visitors to the garden to choose their own path through it, rather than being prescribed a path via algorithm.
The digital garden as a concept seems to be a push back against the walled gardens of content found on Facebook, Twitter, Medium, etc. It also stands against the blog in its current form; that of polished, curated work, more like a magazine than the blogs of the early internet.
Digital Garden Terms of Service
A digital garden is written and developed in public, with many of the notes existing in partial or draft form. This is in direct opposition to what people have come to expect of written content on the Internet.
Because of this, Shawn Wang developed the Digital Garden Terms of Service, a loose, non-legally binding agreement between gardener and visitor. Essentially, what it comes down to is both parties agreeing not to be a dick.
